RnB - Record n Beyond - Electro-mechanic and Kinetic Sound Sculptures
Date and Time:
Saturday & Sunday, tba, 14h - 19h
Record n Beyond is a make-listen-create workshop involving a simple electronic circuit that we will build together, to control and program two individual motors, which can be used to create kinetic sound sculptures. During the workshop the participants will be introduced into the basics of soldering and electronic components using the very accessible method of "paper-bits". The circuit allows the user to record and play/loop patterns of "beats" which then make the motors move, wiggle, twist, flip various objects that can be crafted into a kinetic sound machine. Together with the whole group of participants we will construct a room filling sound sculpture, using found objects and recycled materials, to explore different noises and materialities collaboratively.
This workshop has been inspired by Ralf Schreiber (DE) who describes it as follows:
"A workshop where participants will build small electro-mechanical solo drum machines from single DC motors and small circuit boards. The workshop will experiment with different kinds of sounding materials (metal pieces, stones, springs, paper, etc), where the machines will oscillate freely and develop their own individual sound quality. Once built the machines will be used to explore fundamental musical structures."
- No previous knowledge in electronics is necessary
- Bring interesting materials to experiment with from home
- Guest input lecture: tba

Puredata (Pd) Workshop with Servando
Puredata (Pd) is a versatile visual programming language established in 1996 as an open-source alternative to Max/Msp.
This workshop aims to delve into the multifaceted capabilities of Puredata, offering participants an opportunity to explore its diverse applications in music, visual arts, tool creation, VST plugins, Eurorack modules, iOS apps, and more.
One of Pd's standout advantages over similar languages, including Max, lies in its exceptional portability. It seamlessly operates across all major operating systems, extending its functionality to mobile phones and cost-effective microcontrollers like the Esp32. This attribute has quietly established Pd as one of the most widely utilized audio engines.
The graphical interface of Puredata renders it more accessible than conventional code-based languages, fostering a quicker workflow for users. While the initial learning curve might be steep due to its myriad objects and possibilities, grasping the fundamentals facilitates smoother navigation.
Countless user-created manuals, examples, and an extensive repository of freely available patches significantly ease the adaptation of Pd to individual needs. This workshop aims to showcase invaluable resources that expedite the development of Pd coding skills, enabling beginners to progress towards their creative objectives with greater ease.

In Vol. 1, participants will learn how to craft and etch their own biodegradable “vinyl” records (made of seaweed, gelatin, and various natural pigments). Participants will not only create their own bioplastic records, they will also etch sounds of their choosing onto the biomaterials using a record etcher provided at the workshop.

2G+ event
To have a save and friendly environment, we will host the event as 2G+, meaning you should additionally to your recovery/vaccination, bring a recent negativ test result, if your GG is older than 4 months. ALso in general fresh self-testing is appreciated to have a good atmosphere. This will allow us to jam and interact more freely and safely. thx!
What comes with the workshop
Workshop will be held in English but I do speak German with a strong Dutch accent so we can combine the languages if wished.
Introduction of the Workshop ‘Try and error’ – Solder your first Synth
Do you have something with weird or raw electronic sounds? Have you been collecting exotic sounds and glitchy instruments over the years? Or do you just want to learn how to solder? Then this workshop is something for you. In a small group we will try and error to get some scratchy noises that will be later used in a final jam.
The goal of the workshop
The goal of the workshop is that everyone will walk out with a working self-built noise source or eurorack module. The aim is not only to basteln with hardware but also build up trust and know-how to build their own DIY projects by themselves.

About JACQNOISE
Lately, Jacky aka JacqNoise, as an errorist, pioneered hardware interfaces that support algorithms or analogue circuits focusing on chaos in order to develop noises and specify sounds.
She has given workshops in the last 4 years that have centralised on fundamentals of creating sounds. This was either by having the focus on the hardware (Eurorack format) or creating compositions with deconstruction field recordings. Besides the workshop program, Jacky performs live with her Eurorack case that synchronises with her surroundings. She finds her main source of inspiration in cultural cross-pollination.

Plant Traces on Textile 10 & 13. Dez
