Turn anything into an Electric Drum
Anything can be a Rübedrum! Bring your own cigarbox, plastic container, broken telephone or that cheesy souvenir which is collecting dust since your trip to Japan 10 years back and never could bring yourself to give away. (Nearly) anything can be turned into an electronic music instrument, and this workshop will teach you how. The Rübedrum is a custom circuit board designed to turn its housing into a synth drum, triggered by hitting the case ,which can be basically any object of your liking. This is not your regular DIY Workshop where everyone will build the same thing, but rather an opportunity to get creative and build your one of a kind electronic instrument. Besides the enclosure, the actual circuit offers also plenty oportunities for customization: We can choose between different variations and options for influencing the sound of the Rübedrum, such as light sensors or rotary knobs.
Because of the individual nature of this workshop, it requires some initiative and realistic assesment of your skills. Some previous experience with electronics, soldering or even just electronic music definitely helps. If you are a total beginner it’s still be possible to participate, but be ready for a heap of new information and challenges. We try our best to guide you through it!

About Rübezahl
Ruben Rübe, also known as Rübezahl, is an electronic musician and instrument builder based in Taiwan. For many years he is creating his own electronic instruments like synthesizers and effect units. Mostly employing classic analogue electronics and being self thought he is very enthusiastic about spreading his knowledge and passion for creating electronic sounds from scratch. In the last years he teached many classes from little kids to grown ups, public or at institutions like among others the Shih Chien University or the Taiwan University of Arts. For the summer he is now visiting Europe and passing by Zurich, teaming up with SGMK to offer this class.
